2015

March

We are delighted to welcome back William Leight Knight, John Collis and Catherine Hutchinson who will open the 2015 season of Music at the Limes concerts at Standlake on Sunday, 15th March.

William Leigh Knight ~ baritone, John Collis ~ piano and Catherine Hutchinson ~ mezzo will perform a concert titled ‘Songs & Verses on an Anthrompomorphic Theme’ which hints upon a programme of Animal related songs!

The Exuberant Trust is extremely grateful to the trio for their generosity and time, as this is the fifth fundraising concert that they have performed at The Limes. Many thanks also go to all who attended the concert and donated a total of £125.

Trustee and acting Chair of the Exuberant Trust Dr. Susanna Graham-Jones retired from her life-long career as a GP this month. Susanna very kindly requested that her leaving retirement gift from the Nuffield Practice, Oxfordshire, was a donation to the Exuberant Trust. We are therefore very grateful for the £256 that was received.

June

We welcome past Exuberant Trust award-winner Martha Lloyd to the Limes, for our next concert on Sunday, 14th June. Martha is joined by piano accompanist Jenny Miles for an evening of flute music featuring pieces by Bartok, Mozart and Prokofiev.

Martha studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees. You can see her perform at her Masters recital on YouTube: Video 1 and Video 2. Martha is currently a member of the Southbank Sinfonia.

Many thanks go to Martha, Jenny and to those who attended the concert and for the donations received of £280.

Susanna Graham-Jones stepped down as acting Chair of the Exuberant Trust at the meeting held on 14th June, but will remain on the comittee as a trustee. Susanna has been acting Chair since 2006, but would rather not continue with this role due to her family connections to the trust. Susanna will continue to organise the Music at the Limes fundraising concerts and will now take on the role of Secretary. Many thanks were given to Susanna for her hard work over the years as Chair of the Trustees.

At the same meeting, Susie Crow was formally elected by members of the Committee to be the new Chair of Trustees and was thanked for agreeing to take on this demanding role.

July

Huge amounts of excitement in July and “we are basking in reflected glory”, as two former Exuberant Trust award-winners will be featured at the BBC Proms 2015 this month.

On 20th July, the world premiere of composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad's piece From the Beginning of the World, a new tribute to Thomas Tallis, will be performed at Cadogan Hall, as part of a concert including several choral works by this 16th Century choral composer, including Spem in alium.

On 22nd July, clarinettist, composer and conductor Mark Simpson is the soloist in Carl Nielsen's Clarinet Concerto at the Royal Albert Hall.

August

We are honoured to announce a special fundraising concert at 1pm, on Friday 11th September at the Royal Geographical Society, London. The Ars Eloquentiae ensemble will perform a selection of early music directly inspired by Michael Drayton’s Poly-Olbion (published in 1612 & 1622). The concert is free with donations encouraged for The Exuberant Trust and Flash of Spendour Arts.

This lunchtime concert is part of the exhibition The Faerie Land: Michael Drayton’s Vision of Britain, one of a series of events organised by Flash of Spendour Arts for the Childrens' Poly-Olbion Project, which introduces children to Michael Drayton’s vast topographical poem of Britain, Poly-Olbion (1612; 1622). The children's reimagining of Drayton’s Jacobean landscapes will be showcased alongside 17th-century books and maps, at the Royal Geographical Society (in partnership with the University of Exeter) in the month-long exhibition from 9 September.

Many thanks go to the member of Ars Eloquentiae who performed a programme of early Jacobean music for the concert. We are also grateful to Steve Pratley and Anne Avery (both of Flash of Splendour Arts) who were kind enough to organise the concert, as part of their Children's Poly-Olbion Exhibition at the RGS.
