DAVID MEARS is currently studying a Masters Degree in performance on the Clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music, with Mark van de Wiel. David is an accomplished musician and performs regularly as a piano accompanist, clarinettist or tenor in concerts in Oxfordshire and further afield.


David has performed three times at the BBC Proms as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. When studying for a degree in Linguistics at King’s College, Cambridge, David was awarded the Derek Cornwell Instrumental Scholarship for two years in a row, and was also a laureate of the CUMS Concerto Competition on two occasions. Outside of Cambridge, David has won various prizes including the Howarth Prize for the Most Outstanding Reed Player at the North London Music Festival in 2014.


Since graduating in 2014, David has been passionate about teaching music and has been tutoring in Clarinet and Piano, with pupils of all ages and standards, both privately and at the Matrix Music School, Sutton Courtenay.
