Entrance is free. Donations to the Exuberant Trust.

This is our first showcase for young musicians, a dancer and a jeweller. 7.00pm, St. Margaret's Institute, Polstead Road, Oxford.

Tickets on the door: £10.00/£8.00 (concessions) in aid of the Exuberant Trust.

Veronica Doubleday and John Baily are Ethno-musicologists who studied in Afghanistan during the 1970s. They are now highly respected as performers and are well known in Afghanistan and in Afghan diaspra communities. In recent years they have returned to Afghanistan, studying the re-emergence of music in urban communities.

John is a virtuoso player of two types of lute, the rubab and dutar. Veronica sings and plays a drum like a large tambourine, played only by women. They will introduce and sing/play music preserved from the Taliban attempt to destroy music and performance across the country. Their repertoire includes love songs from the city of Herat.
